Welcome

If you’re a bit of a history buff and like visiting museums, then the Pioneer Women’s Hut in Glenroy is an excellent place to go. A small museum, it tells about the life and times of women and the challenges faced when it came to looking after their family in the early pioneer days of rural Australia a century ago.

A visit to this museum will leave you amazed, as you probably never considered what life was like back then, and how people lived without modern conveniences. This museum demonstrates exactly what women had to go through in order to maintain their home and their family. See the various objects they used in their domestic lives.

Be immersed in the lifestyle of the old times, with displays of old housing and implements, and see exactly how common household tasks were completed. Other sights also include displays of farm implements that were used back in the day by the pioneers in the district. It was not an easy day’s work back then.

The Heritage Reserve can be found on Wagga Road in Glenroy, just west of the Tumbarumba township. It is open on Wednesdays during the week, but the best time to go is on weekends and public holidays, between 10 and 4. A special visit can be arranged for large groups and coaches.
